DIY art mugs!

You will need:
• liquitex glossies paint (sold at craft stores, I used black)
• a few cheap paintbrushes ( I used the 15¢ kids ones sold at a local art store)
• some plain mugs (got mine at the dollar store)
• and an oven
How to:
I washed my mugs in the dishwasher first. Then after they are completely dry you can start to paint on them. I love the chevron pattern so of course I chose to do that, but you can do pretty much anything. The nice thing about this paint is if you don’t like what you have done you can wash it off and start over! after you have painted on the mug it needs to sit in a dry place for 24 hours. Then after the 24 hours you need to bake the mug so the paint can set to it permanently. This is important: place the mug into the oven before turning the oven on, the mug needs to heat with the oven. so place the mug into the oven and turn it to 325ºF for 45 minutes. After the 45 min. turn off the oven and open the oven door to cool (with the mugs still inside) then after they are back to room temperature then you are done! yay now you have a cool new mug for your tea and coffee! (note, I suggest to hand wash your cool new mug because the dishwasher could get too hot and cause some paint to melt)
If you have any questions leave a comment with the comment button to the right! And send a pic of your mug I would love to see them! Happy crafting!
Holiday Spice Tea! A fun “how to”

Ok so I wanted to share a great holiday gift D.I.Y. that is super easy to do and not too expensive. Every year growing up my mom always made “Texas Spice Tea” and it is so good! So this year I decided to make some and give them as gifts! Since we don’t live in Texas anymore I am renaming the tea as Holiday Spice Tea.
You will need:
3 cups of Orange Tang powder
1.5 cups Lipton Lemon instant iced tea mix
3 cups sugar
4 tspoons ground cinnamon
2 tsoons ground cloves
All you have to do is mix all the dry ingredients together and it’s done!
I divided the mix up into large jars (walmart brand canning jars $6) I liked these jars because they were a little larger than regular canning jars and didn’t have any brand printed in the glass.
To make the tea just mix a few scoops with hot water and enjoy! I like to use a little extra because I like it sweet, but it’s up to you!
I made some hang tags and jar topers that I would love to share with you if you decided to make the tea or just want to use them on jars for something else this holiday season! Click here to get them, just save them to your desktop and print them, for free!
Here is how I used the hang tags and jar toppers, and a step by step of what I did.
You will need: kraft paper, or card stock paper of you choice, a printer, something to cut with ( I like to use an x-acto knife ), glue stick or spray glue, something to tie the tags on with ( I used hemp ) and of course you will need jars.
*also when using an x-acto knife always cut away from body, use a ruler and a good cutting surface; if you don’t have a cutting mat use a kitchen cutting board.
So I just printed the tags out and cut them, used a hole punch so I could tie the hemp to the tag and then just wrapped the hemp around the top of the jar. The tags tend to stick out so you might have to curve it slightly to hang right.
For the Jar toppers I just used a glue stick and stuck them on, it would be best to have printed on sticker paper or use spray glue but I didn’t have either of those!
Happy Monday! Christmas Crafting Time!

Ok so Christmas is around the corner and it’s time to go into panic mode! Unless you thought ahead then yay for you! However, here are a few fun things you can do for that last minute thing you forgot you needed a gift for!
1. The d.i.y. decor frame…all I did here was get a frame, mine is from Michaels, and some scrap book paper, also from Michaels. I created a simple little design with the words, “peace, love & family” and simply printed and taped the pieces together and placed it in the frame! Way easy and way cute!
2. The Candle…basically I found a candle that I liked (mine is from Michaels, Apple Cinnamon) and just peeled off the original tag that was on it and then just wrapped some hemp rope around the neck of the candle…I also added a charm and hang tag for an extra hand done quality, I wrote again the “peace, love & family” on the hang tag.
3. The Corn Bag…This one will require some extra effort. You will need a sewing machine, fabric of your choice, and clean feed corn. annnnnd just incase you didn’t know what a corn bag was, which is understandable, it is used to keep you warm. You can heat them up in the microwave and put them on your toes to keep them warm all winter, or a sore muscle to help the pain! They make really good gifts and last for a long time!
First you need to cut the fabric into the desired size, fold in half and sew three edges. Then you can add the feed corn, when pouring the corn you should keep in mind that you don’t need too much corn in there, don’t pack it tight. then sew the final edge up and you have a corn bag!
Happy crafting

Ok so I spend a lot of time, wayyyy too much time drooling over all of the pretty things people create and sell at etsy.com! So since I just go there to look at things (because I am a poor college student who wastes money on useless things like books) I thought I could promote my five favorite things!
1. I am so in love with these painted antlers by Cassandra Smith! I think these could add a fun pop of color to a more natural colored room without going overboard! You can buy them HERE!
2. I think these wooden signs by William Dohman are way too cool go HERE to check out all of the cutesy signs at his etsy shop!
3. Personal finger printed necklace by Jane Wear Jewelry how neat is that!
4. I am obsessed with the chevron pattern right now! I have found myself just doodling it in my sketchbook over and over, can’t get enough. I found this fresh take on it with these fun pillows by PLYTEXTILES.
5. I am loving this dainty little gold twig ring! Go check out the rest of the collection by Colby June Fulton.
Hope you enjoy some of my finds, if you find something cool at etsy leave a link in my comment box to the right! Happy shopping!

This is the final video for my advertising class final! Yay! This was a group project so I can’t take all the credit, but we all worked really hard on it and I am very pleased with the outcome! The project was to create a 30 second commercial to sell/promote the given product (in our case Miracle Grow). The process: we spent over 7 hours putting this thing together and another 4 editing the phots! We hand made all of the elements, the background, pot, flowers, leaves…everything (except the Miracle Grow bottle) We sat there and moved each piece ever so slightly and took a picture after each move. In the end we had over 500 photos which I edited and placed into an imovie document, then added some music (Let your love grow tall, by Passion Pit) and voilà…awesome video! This is seriously a fun project that you can do with just about anything! I want to try more just for fun!
